Troop 1048 Scoutmaster
A Big Thank You to Mike Couturier who served as the Scoutmaster of 1048 for over 6 years. Thank You for your Leadership and Dedication to the values of Scouting.
Scoutmaster - Paul Christensen
A little bit about the Scoutmaster. I've been an Adult Leader within Troop 1048 since February of 2005. During that time I served first as an Assistant Scoutmaster and then as a Committee Member in charge of Advancement. I also served as a Cub Scout Den Leader from 2000 to 2005 within Pack 4048. Like so many of you fellow leaders, when my son began down his scouting trail, I took the bait too: hook, line, and sinker (after all it is only 1 hour a week :) Twenty years ago I married my highschool sweetheart Darci, whom has been by my side supporting me during my trail as a Scout Leader. We have three awesome children each of which are unique and wonderfully made: Jared is 15 and enjoys Scouts (of course!), Band, Football, and Basketball, Emily is 11 and enjoys Band, Basketball, Soccer, and going fishing with Dad, Chloe is 6 and enjoys singing, dancing, playing soccer, and wearing anything that is pink and has feathers. It is a rare and unique priviledge to serve in such an outstanding community. Our White Lake Area has excellent Packs, a great Troop, and an outstanding Crew. I look forward to working together to ensure our young men enjoy a memorable and positive experience as they enter into, grow within, and exit out of the Troop.
Scoutmaster's Minute
Hello Parents, Friends, and Family of Troop 1048,
As your new Scoutmaster I am very humbled and honored to now carry the paton that so many men of character filled with the Spirit of Scouting have carried so well in the more than 50 years that our proud troop has been in existence. I would like to personally thank both Mike and Pam Couturier for making this transition so smooth. The Troop is healthier than ever as we look forward to the 2010/11 scouting year. Our boys have returned from Summer Camp energized, trained, united, and ready for adventure. This year we seek to raise the bar higher than ever before for a Boy-Led-Troop.
Our first course of business in this will be to have our elected youth leadership body, the Patrol Leaders Council (aka the "PLC") identify, choose, schedule, and lead the campouts that we will attend this year as a Troop. This is a fundemental shift, but a necessary one to ensure that the program is as effective as possible. Rest assured the parents and leaders of our Troop will be feeding me as many creative ideas for adventure and character-building as they can muster. These too will be offered up to the PLC as ideas for our activities.
Our second course of business will be to appoint the senior leaders of our troop. During Summer Camp many of your sons were interviewed by Ryan, our SPL as well as by Mike Couturier and myself. Once we appoint our senior leaders we will have elections for all remaining positions. Ideally our new PLC will be in-place by the end of September.
Our third order of business will be to train our newly appointed and elected Youth Leaders so that they can be effective. We will accomplish this via a Junior Leadership Training (aka "JLT"). Ryan, Matt, and our Junior Assistant Scoutmasters will lead this event, which will take place in October at Gerber Scout Camp.
I am very excited about where we are today and where we are headed as a unit. As we seek to raise tomorrow's leaders, I stand with my fellow leaders prepared to ensure that your sons are inspired, challenged, and encouraged.
Yours in Scouting - Paul Christensen, Scoutmaster
